WE AND MEDICAL COMMUNITY
Together we are creating better treatment conditions
Good and functional co-operation with the entire medical community is one of the prerequisites for the success of our activities. In our projects, paediatric clinics and haematology and oncology departments in Sarajevo and Tuzla are regularly involved as partners or advisors and thus provide a way to healing their children with malignant illnesses. By building strong bridges between the medical community and the Association, we strengthen and build paths for a better future for sick children.
For many years, we have had successful collaboration with the Paediatric Clinic of the University Clinical Centre of Sarajevo, and many of our projects have been implemented with their support and cooperation.
In the Federation of Bosnia and Herzegovina, cancer is diagnosed every year in about 60 (sixty) children and the cure rate is around 80%. These findings confirm that the team of the Haematology and Oncology Department of the Paediatric Clinic of the University Clinical Centre of Sarajevo, led by prof.dr. Edo Hasanbegović and prof.dr. Meliha Sakić, a reference centre in FBiH, recognizable in the region, with outstanding success in treating children aged 0 to 18. The Haematological Department has cured over 1000 patients with malignant diseases from all over BiH. In the past year, autologous peripheral stem cells transplantation was performed in sixteen-month-old baby boy with Neuroblastoma st. 4, for the first time in the region.
The scope of our work has recently been extended to the Tuzla Canton where we have collaborated with the Haematology and Oncology Department of the Children's Diseases Clinic of the University Clinical Centre of Tuzla under a project of psychosocial support for patients, parents and medical staff. One of our strategic goals for the period from 2018 to 2020 is to define and develop cooperation with the staff of the local health care centres and hospitals, as well as with the staff employed in the social services sector for the needs of the Mobile Team project.
