WIGS – ANUNBREAKABLE BOND BETWEEN BANJA LUKA AND SARAJEVO

Banja Luka is among the cities whose residents send us their hair, and that is exactly how we made two little girls happy with their new wigs. We are sure everyone has heard about the brave little girl called Maša, who is fighting the scary enemy bravely, with a big smile on her face. Thanks to the Association of Parents of Children Suffering from Malignant Diseases Iskra from Banja Luka, we managed to reach the children who really need support in the form of a wig. Thanks to Maša and her parents, we showed the world that when it comes to an illness, there are no differences and our needs in such big trouble become the same.

The whole story gave birth to an idea which has successfully been put in action so we hosted a public hair cutting and donation campaign in Banja Luka. The people from Banja Luka and the neighbouring places gave us a warm welcome and gave us a part of themselves which we will never forget, they gave us their hair which we will weave into wigs to be made in the future. We will not talk about the success of this campaign; suffice it to say we collected hair from 143 people.

“Teenage girls such as Maša are aware that the problem shows up after the therapy and that’s the most sensitive part of the child population. So for them, as well as for us, this is very important. Since Maša has handled it very well all this time, at some point I thought the wig would not mean a lot to her, but when I saw how happy she was when she got one, I realised I was wrong,” said Maša’s mother.

The campaign in Banja Luka and the project “My Hair, Your Hair” was backed by actor Enis Bešlagić, who was present during the event and showed his support to the joy of everyone who was there. We had fun with Enis, as we usually do, he brought a lot of smiles to the children’s faces.

The association Heart for Children continues its hair donation campaign for making wigs for children with cancer, as well as for the children who lost their hair due to other factors. A campaign including hair cutting and hair donation has been planned to take place in Sarajevo soon and the public will be informed about in in a timely manner.

It is important to point out that the Association gives wigs to children totally free, giving them back their self-esteem, minimising the trauma of hair loss, and most importantly, giving them back the most important thing – their smile.
