This year's rehabilitation camp Vlašić 2018, organised by the Srce za djecu oboljelu od raka Association officially started on 31 July 2018, and ended on 5 August 2018.
Every year, the Association plans a specially designed programme of the rehabilitation camp for children with cancer and children treated for cancer, and their parents. The programme is free, and it includes accommodation, food, activities, and medical care. The cam is financed through donations, grants, and the Association’s activities.
This year, around 85 children cured from cancer and 60 of their parents from across the Federation of BiH went through the rehabilitation programme, which is absolutely necessary after extended treatment and isolations required by the treatment.
The camp aims to achieve the following:
- Strengthen immunity, resistance, and physical endurance in children
- Psychosocial strength
- Strengthen self-confidence, self-respect, and include children into a peer group
- Increase independence, self-confidence, openness to new things and experience
- Social strength – positive impact of a group, resocialisation and return to the common surroundings
- Reduce stress, anxiety, stimulate creativity and positive attitude
- Strengthen family ties
- Raise awareness on childhood cancer and the consequences of treatment
The Association prepared a number of activities that achieved the foregoing goals, and is proud of the fact that this year there were 20 volunteers who helped the children feel well and have fun. The Association is particularly proud of the fact that the majority of volunteers are former cancer patients, active in the Association under the name MladiCe. MladiCe regularly volunteer in the Association, and the positive outcome in their fight with cancer is a positive example and motive to children and parents currently fighting this serious disease. They are a proof and an example that childhood cancer is curable, and that they can come out as winners.
We are also happy that we managed to achieve our goals at this camp, that we managed to get lots and lots of smiles, that we managed to make visible changes that could not go unnoticed. Till the next camp, in good health!
