Within the Pediatric Clinic UKCS at the University Clinical Center of Sarajevo, on April 26, 2016, the Parent House was ceremoniously opened. It provides completely free continuous accommodation for children suffering from cancer and their families from the entire territory of the Federation of Bosnia and Herzegovina who are being treated at the Pediatric Oncology Department of the Jezero Pediatric Clinic at the University Clinical Center of Sarajevo. In addition to accommodation, within the house, we provide families with free basic groceries, hygiene products, and psychosocial support, as well as anything else that proves necessary and crucial for the child's path to complete recovery.
Now, after many years of its functioning and overcoming many obstacles, we can say that it regularly fulfills its mission and proves the value of its existence every day, as well as demonstrating many benefits for families of sick children and the wider community. It has been home to hundreds of families so far, a place for rest, and gathering strength. Filled with children's smiles daily, it represents a place where childhood continues its course.
The Parent House was built with the help of friends of children suffering from cancer. Thanks to various donors who recognized its great importance, Bosnia and Herzegovina got its first Parent House, which represents a lasting good, from which children suffering from cancer and their parents, medical staff, and the broader community will benefit.
The land for construction was provided by the University Clinical Center in Sarajevo. The Parent House for children suffering from cancer covers an area of 666 square meters, with a basement, ground floor, and three floors, consisting of ten individually designed apartments with bathrooms, a multifunctional room with a playroom and living room, a shared kitchen and dining room, a multifunctional hall, laundry room, garage, rooftop terrace, and association premises.
