During the previous hair donation drives, organised by the Srcezadjecuoboljeluodraka Association as part of the My hair, your hair project, a large quantity of hair was collected, enough to make 23 wigs. All the drives were extremely successful, and with all the individual donations that arrived to the Association, the number of donors had already exceeded 1000.
Good people supported the cause once more, and the public hair donation drive in Zenica, organised in the Džananović shopping centre, proved to be very successful. Large number of adults and children responded to the call for humane action with one goal in mind, to participate in bringing at least one more smile to a child's face. Eighty sets of hair for more wigs were collected in Zenica, to make more children happy, surprised, and content.
“We parents know how hard it was to go through the treatment with the child, and the hardest thing for all of us is to see our children unhappy, sad, in tears, suffering. It pains us to see the changes in our children, and imagine how painful it is for the children. Our child’s loss of hair was one of the most painful moments in the treatment, because in a way, it is an eye opener, it is one type of facing the diagnosis. The chid also grieves the hair, suffers because of the different appearance, mourns the old life. That is why the wig is a big thing.
We watched a child transform when he or she gets a wig, it’s like getting the lost hair back. The child’s confidence grows and in a way, things go back to what they used to be. Many thanks to the Association for launching such an important project, its advantages and benefits for the children are immeasurable,” one of the parents attending the drive said.
Srce za djecu oboljelu od raka Association continues campaigning for hair donations needed to make wigs for children with cancer, but also for children who have suffered hair loss due to other reasons. More hair donation drives have been planned for the future in other BiH cities, of which the public will be notified on time.
We need to reiterate that the Association provides the wigs completely free, bringing back their self-confidence, minimising the trauma caused by hair loss, and, most importantly, gives them back the most precious thing they lost – smile.
