As part of the My Hair, Your Hair Project, the Association “Heart for the kids with cancer” has organised a hair donation drive in Vitez to make wigs for children with cancer.
About 60 children of different ages develop a malignant disease in Bosnia and Herzegovina every year. The cure rate is about 80 percent. However, the path to full recovery is hard and painful, with hair loss being a particularly difficult experience for children, especially girls.
A large number of citizens of the Central-Bosnia Canton as well as neighbouring cantons, both children and adults, have joined the hair donation drive. The event was held in the central area of the FIS Shopping Centre in Vitez, on 13 May, between 11:00 am and 5:00 pm, and the hair was donated by 105 people.
“We are especially proud of children and youth whose personal example demonstrated humanity and faith in a better tomorrow.”
So far, we have made and presented 18 wigs, while another 3 wigs are being made as we speak. Wigs from the Association workshop are available, completely free of charge, to any child who has had a temporary or permanent loss of hair so that they can restore their self-confidence and successfully re-integrate in their home environment.
“We sincerely thank everyone for the support shown, especially Amra Džeko for her personal example and her engagement in promoting the project and hair donation drive; the FIS Vitez Shopping Centre; Dijana Brkan and Amar Migalo for the space provided and their selfless technical support; the FIS hair and beauty salon headed by Nevenka Jeličić; hairdressers Mahir, Martina, Zilha, Azra, Ankica, Tanja, Vildana, Aldijana, Almira, Ivan, Halid, Ivana, Ivona, Melina and Jasna; as well as the companies Frizerland, Ovnak Vitez and Schwarzkopf Professional headed by Milka Toljušić, Ilija Buha and Martina Kurevija for their creative support and gifts. We also express our sincere thanks to the programme host, Loren Laštro (Radio Vitez) and technicians Miro Kovačević and Goran Gajić. Special thanks go to Lucija Toljušić, for her enormous desire to bring the My Hair, Your Hair Project to Vitez, and to all the citizens of the CBC and beyond who have made their own contribution.”
