World statistics suggest that more than 300,000 children and adolescents (215,000 age of 0-14, 85,000 age of 15-19), are diagnosed with cancer every year, out of which more than 100,000 do not survive cancer, meaning that the worldwide healing rate is about 70%.
The European statistics show that in Europe 15,000 children are diagnosed with cancer annually, out of which 3,000 children do not survive, suggesting that the healing rate is between 80% and 90%. As far as the BiH is concerned, cancer is diagnosed in about 60 children a year, hence the healing rate is about 80%.
Childhood Cancer International (CCI) is an umbrella organisation representing 188 parent associations from 96 countries around the world. We are also a member of this association. This year's goal of the CCI is to work with all its members on raising public awareness about child cancer, the importance of providing help and support to children diagnosed with cancer and their parents, as well as long-term monitoring of the survivors.
At the very beginning of 2018, we would like to encourage the entire community work on raising the awareness of childhood cancer on the International Childhood Cancer Day, 15th February. On this day we team up to make childhood cancer a national and global health priority.
